Hi,

I posted recently as I was having weird electrical probs e.g.
intermittent wiper,rear fogs,rear wiper,glow chimes,light on chimes,
interior light etc etc all not coming on.This was after heavy rain
so I put it down to water in the fuse box or similar.

I’m now getting the interior light coming on/off on its own
and some of the above staying on permanently e.g. rear wiper, fogs
even when their switch is deselected.

After searching it appears that others have had similar probs which
turned out to be the Multi Function unit but there are conflicting
descriptions of its location.

Can anyone tell me if its either at the fuse box below steering wheel
or behind/near the glove box?? Apparently its a cream coloured box
about half the size of a fag packet.Any assistance greatly appreciated,

Cheers Kertir.

Hi! I found this on www.discoweb.org by searching for multi function unit in the search box of the bulletin board. Well worth a look but I am not sure of the differences between UK and US versions.
Cheers,
Rich

Circuit Operation, Multi-Function Unit
The multi-function unit (MFU) is mounted on the rear of the passenger compartment fusebox and has an input to operation of the following:

Heated rear screen
Heated front screen
Courtesy lights
Side and headlights
Rear fog guard lamps
Headlamp power wash
Front wipers
Rear wash/wipe

Testing.
================================================== ========

Close all doors and the tailgate. NOTE: If the oil pressure switch goes open circuit (engine is started) during the following procedure, the MFU will exit the diagnostic mode immediately.
Press and hold the heated rear screen switch and switch on the ignition.
Release the heated rear screen switch within 2 seconds and the MFU will beep to indicate that it's in diagnostic mode 1.
Press the heated rear screen switch; the MFU will beep twice. In turn, operate each of the following switches, heated front screen, rear fog guard lamps, side lights, headlights, front wiper, and rear wiper. The MFU will beep twice each time a switch is operated.
Pressing the heated rear screen again will cause the MFU to enter diagnostic mode 2.
The MFU will provide outputs to the following in order given below:
Heated rear screen relay energized for 2 seconds
Heated front screen energized for 2 seconds
Courtesy lights energized for 2 seconds
Dim dip relay energized for 2 seconds
Rear fog guard lamp energized for 2 seconds
Headlamp power wash energized for half a second
Front wiper energized for half a second
Rear wipe/wash energized for half a second
The MFU will then exit the diagnostic mode.

Hi,

thanks for the reply.I managed to get the glovebox down but I cant even locate a passenger side fusebox never mind the MFU. I can see the top of the blower motor unit and to its left there are 2 or 3 silver units AMR 5441
(2 off) and another larger metal unit with a huge mutiplug connector screwed in.

Below this abovee the footwell area there are 2 banks of approx 5 relays &
then a green box with 2 connections into the bottom of it.I cant locate the MFU.I've also had another look at the fusebox below the steering wheel & cant see anything resembling it there either............what am I
missing????? (apart from the MFU),

Any ideas...........

MULTI FUNCTION UNIT on the back of the fuse box under the steering wheel.

That is where I was told to look even though I never did cuz my fault was the window ecu which I didn't even know existed!!:)

Apparently you need to remove the fuseboard to gain access to it.

Hi,

thanks, what a div.....I was getting myself confused (easily done).
When I saw passenger fuse box I automatically thought passenger side &
started to look behind the glove box. I now realise that it just meant the
fuse box inside the car ie. below the steering wheel.

Anyway I tried to remove the fuse box but there are 4 connectors on it
one of which is for the airbags so I need to know the best way to deal with this, do I just unplug it or take out fuse first or disconnect battery,

Any thoughts.............

Sorry! that is as far as my knowledge goes! Surely someone here has actually removed one! Good luck!
