Hi Guys,

Was wondering if someone could assist. I have a diesel Land Rover Discovery (R reg). With the engine stone cold (left overnight) as soon as I turn on the ignition (but without starting the engine) the temperature guage shoots up to max and the red warning light starts to flash. Coolant level was a little low which I corrected but problem persists.

Any ideas ?

Many thanks

Lesle

So its a 1997/98 300 Tdi Discovery.

Possible faults:
1. the temp sensor is faulty (check it with an ohmmeter - its resistance should not be 0, about 30-40 ohms when warm about 1k aprox when cold)
2. the wire leading to the sensor might be pinched somewhere (earth contact)
3. other wire/connector faults on the run between sensor and indicator
4. faulty indicator (less likely)
5. water ingress behind the dash

Many thanks Guys ! Common theme seems to be an electrical problem so I'll check it out.
