Right, here's another little niggle that I can't find explained anywhere in the books.
You know the digital compass in the corner of the mirror - when I turn on the ignition, before the compass shows a point such as NE, SW, etc, it shows the number 100, followed by [degrees symbol] F, immediately above [degrees symbol] C. Then after a couple of seconds it gives out the compass reading.
What is that meant to mean?

2001 TD5 ES
Yep mine too. If you look at it quickly it looks like 100%, I wonder if it is saying it's got 100% power, or maybe 100% light on the auto dimming mirror? I get external temp by pressing EXT button on the aircon.
A mystery... :Idunno:

I had a look at the online owners' handbooks for 2001 MY, and the only one which mentions the compass is N American spec. There should be a tiny button on the underside of the mirror, you put a ball point pen in to re-calibrate the compass. it should say 'C' then after a while it works out where north is :D But no mention of the 100% thing ...

Hmm ... also says the same stuff in UK 2000MY and 2002MY, but not 2001 ... and still nothing about the 100% ... now this is driving me mad ... :D

Yep I'll leave well alone too, mine works well as a compass, if it ain't broke don't fix it :D
I enjoy watching the compass and the satnav arguing sometimes ... the satnav has occasional senior moments where it decides we are going, say, SW, when the compass is showing say NW  ALways go with the compass on those occasions :D

Hi,
The compass showing 100% is just a self test of the screen at power up, the compass is set to the appropriate region (magnetic field) when the vehicle is supplied, any re-calibration after that (switch underneath) is not normally required. I like mine, a cool gadget.

There are some details about the calibration in the user manual (my copy, but cant see them in the online copy. I probably downloaded the wrong one) which concur with this. The C is for the calibration mode and I am willing to bet the % is for percentage done for the calibration, but is simply shown on start up as part of a screen test (this bit is not clear from the instructions). There is also a setting for region (as above, set by default, so you don’t usually need to change it). Thus no magic James Bond functionality hiding in here.
