View Full Version : Drivers seat back tare
Drivers seat back tare
I have a small tare on the back of the drivers seat. This lines up nicely with the pop stud on the back of the back seat (the one used to hold the load space cover up). It is clear that the tare was caused by the back seat being folded down and the pop stud ripping the front seat. The tare is only tiny and the seat is leather. The users manual mentions a strap to clip onto the stud that holds the seat down when folding “to prevent scuffing” but I cant find this strap (probably lost if it ever existed) and there is no place for the other end to attach.
Has anyone else seen this problem ?
Any hints on how to avoid this in future and repair the damage ?
Thanks

What's a tare?
I think I've seen these for sale as fishing bait but I'm sure you don't mean these...................do you????????
tare = the new state of the art anagrammed form (read misspelling) of tear
so the Wear and tear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wear_and_tear) becomes Ware dan tare.
Is this the strap you mentioned that is supposed to prevent "scuffing" (see picture)?
As you can read there, that strap is used to protect the BACK seats from rubbing against the cubby box, it has nothing to do with the front seats.
When you fold the rear seats just push the front seats forward a little and/or adjust seat back angle until there's no contact.
I don't see this as a problem but more as like a "user error".

It is a problem, and I think its caused by someone not moving the drviers seat far enough forward when dropping the rear seats forward. My local LR agent said the only solution was to get a new seat cover ( £££££££££££££££), so I have the same problem, and the TEAR is getting BIGGER. Anyone got any answers on how to fix it wothout spending a mint? Thanks
Ooops .. sorry
Yes I mean rip (darn word spellchecker).
Yes that’s the exact page I was referring to in the manual and the exact strap.
The strap sounded like too much bother anyhow.
Yes this was most likely caused by user error (but was there when I got the Disco, so I cant blame me). Thanks for the advice much appreciated.
I expect it is only likely to get worse so I was trying to find some way to repair it and prevent it happening again. I was thinking of a patch.

Is your seat leather too? Best way is to take the seat cover off to fix. If you can't do that take another small piece of leather (off anything at all) and slid it into the rear of the tear with the rough side out. With a spatula and using a tin of liquid UHU glue slide the glue between the leather and the piece on one side first and leave to set. When set do the same with the other side pulling the outer leather over to join up with the other side of the tear and again leave to set. You can then actually stitch the tear up by punching small hole either side of the tear and using 2 needles with thread between them cross the thread over at each hole.( you need needles with no points) You may actually find that the glue will hold on its own and should at least stop the tear from getting any bigger as long as there is not too much pressure on it. My father was a saddler and leather is a hobby of mine.It is a problem, and I think its caused by someone not moving the drviers seat far enough forward when dropping the rear seats forward. Thanks for the help.
Dont think it will be easy to tske the cover off so will try the repair, and let you know how I get on. In the meantime I have been using an old box to protect it when folding the seet and that works well.
