Having spent the last 2 days paddling around the Forests of South Wales on the Wales Rally GB, I have come to the conclusion that the high pitched rumble and vibration I get at around 2k revs in 5th, and at similar revs in other gears, must be the IRD complaining that after 85k miles that it is time for it to be replaced.

The question is, do I get a new one fitted and run the Freelander into the ground, or do I bite the bullet and look for a newer Freelander?

How much is an IRD and who is giving the best deal at present?
How long to fit?
What is a 2000 yr, W reg, diesel XEDi 3 door, hard back, with roughly 85k on the clock worth?
What thoughts on a TD4 auto?
What is the fuel consumption like, as I do 90 miles a day commute?

We've had a couple from Ashcrofts.

There are quite a lot from accident damaged at salvage yards, about £350 I think we gave for the last one.

Take the front subframe off and it's dead easy. About 3 hours.

Are all the petrol and diesel one's the same, or did they change specs at some time?
Presume the V6 is different.

They did change the gear ratio for front and rear so the difference wasn't as high, around 1999/2000 I think, but without checking I can't be certain ( someone will know).

I've only ever done 1.8 IRDs. Give Ashcrofts a ring, they will tell you anything you need to know, they are very helpful.
