View Full Version : Hi all
Hi All
Let me introduce myself, I have been a Landrover owner for about 10 years, admittedly the first few years were the rebuild of the series, got a bit carried away:hahaha: obviously I must be mentally ill as I've just bought a 12 year old Discovery:dunno1: , so obviously the tablets are not working yet!!

P.S Quick word of warning: I rather like the old Rover IOE 6 pot:p

Hi Graham
The Discovery has come as a bit of a shock after owning the Series for so long, but it came along at the right price at the right time. I still own the Series 3 HCPU van with it's beautifully smooth 6 cylinder engine but you can't knock the old 200TDi, I can't really say that the Discovery is my own particular cup of tea but it does grow on you. My partner Tina loves it to bits and usually nicks it any chance she gets, as for my gun dog Max he's still not that impressed with it, give him the choice between the two and he'll go and sit in the Series every time.

Hi, it will grow on you i'm sure.
I took mine up Gatescarth pass in the lakes you can see the photos in the green lane section under informal meets.
I'm looking for a lightweight for off roading but the disco handles it well.

Hi Graham
What do you mean like moss?:dunno1:
I've seen some cheap Lightweights kicking about in the comics, I take it you're looking for a diesel again. I suppost one of the Montego conversions would be excellant but not quite as refined as the TD5 though, and hopefully you can pick up one with all the goodies already fitted.
Right I'm going to have a peruse of your pictures now.

I thought I would attach a picture of my proper Landrover, cause everybody knows what a 1990 White 3 dr Discovery looks like.

Hi All
I did say I get a bit carried away when I build things!
It just sort of developed over the rebuild, but it's main purpose for being built was that most of the other vehicles I've had over the years ie cars just tend to fall to pieces when you fill them up with stationary engines or fire wood, I even managed to wear out in a year a Peugeot pick up 504, it wasn't brilliant to start with and after going accross a few ploughed fields full of lots of bails of hay and various pieces of heavy equipment (bits of the Landrover), I killed it!!:behead:
I also owned a 1975 ERF 6 wheeler heavy recovery truck so it developed into a support vehicle, that's the posh version (portable shed) as I needed something to put all my tools and equipment in (see picture below). I fitted a roller shutter door so you could put things in with a forklift easily, there is a 12/24v built in jump start kit, hydraulic couplings aswell as I intended to fit a lorry loader on my lorry and was going to power it from the Landrover while rebuilding the rear body.
She hasn't seem much action lately, I had an accident at work about 3.5 years ago, hence the Discovery, but hopefully at last I'm on the mend and I drive it occationally now, much more fun than the other one!!

Hi Mad doc
Yes it is a big winch, hydraulic obviously the motors' rated at 13hp, drum speed is fairly slow, 275ft of cable, more than enough for most jobs. I fitted a pressure overload in the system because I thought if I tried to use it at full power I would most probably rip it off it's mountings (MOD chassis with reinforced front cross member to support the winch and home made bumper), but admittedly I had obtained a bigger pump, about 30 gallons a minute and had planned to fit that and enlarge the hydraulic tank and fit an oil cooler in the system but obviously that is on the back burner at the moment.
