View Full Version : Another mass airflow meter question

Couple of questions for anyone that knows:

I have a td5 that started to loose power the other day at high revs. Almost as if the turbo isn't working. No smoke and it isn't the waste gate sticking.

I now believe it is the MAF sensor.

1) I unplugged it and went around the block. All of a sudden she pulls like a train again. How can this be?

2) I know it is expensive to replace from dealers. Is there not a generic sensor that can replace it. Surely most other cars use a similar sensor?

3) I don't suppose you can do any damage driving around with the sensor unplugged?

Lets hope someone out there has the answers!!!

If you unplug the maf then it just uses defaults in the ecu to run so will run 'open loop' or something.

One test i know that works on imprezas is start the car.. unplug the maf when its runnig. If the car continues to run then the maf is hosed. It continues to run as the ecu is expecting it to fail anytime soon.

I now believe it is the MAF sensor.

Replace it, see how it runs, if it's all good, crack open a beer, if it's still the same.................crack open your wallet!!!!!

Seriously, you need to get your vehicle plugged up to find out if anything has been diagnosed, before you start throwing your hard earned away on pointless replacements. You know it makes sense.;)

I have had a look on ebay and find nothing in that price range. Am I searching for the wrong thing?

Maybe you could post a link?

Thanks

Your right Craig none on there!

Just found the box in the garage but no return address, cant seem to work out how to find history of bought items on e-bay or paypal to see who it came from, pretty certain it was a company with loads of other bits for sale.

Sorry

E-bay advanced search for (td5 meter) completed listings and up it comes may be worth contacting them to see if they have any more?
