I noticed last week that my 3rd set of rear Pro-Comps in 18 months have failed again!:( The top eye on one had opened up due to a poor weld, I took it off welded the eye back on. The next day the other side had burst spraying oil all over the rear wheel, tyre and brake disc.

So I decided it was time to try something different and after reading a few reviews and being recommended (by Bearmach) a set of Bearmach's own brand Tuffback dampers. I went for the extended travel ones, they were described as as strong an Ox but not much to look at.

They certainly look much stronger made than the Procomps, the top eyes are bigger, stronger and are fully welded rather than spot welded. The rubber boot looks a better design to me as it allows the water and dirt to drain away. The top rod looks much thicker than the Procomps, overall I think they look alright, besides who really cares what a shock absorber looks like?

I fitted the rear pair yesterday, went for a quick 10 mile drive to pick up the turkey. They made the rear end feel much more comfortable, it used to crash and bang over the bumps but now feels more car like, handles OK still. I don't know how they perform off-road yet, other people have said they are better.

They come with a 2 year/ 40K mile warranty and I think are very similar priced to the Procomps.

Forgot to say, I am impressed enough to have bought a pair of front ones too, hope to fit them in the next week.

I think they sell for around £35-£45 each. Been on a long trip today with the boot loaded to the roof with logs, so a fair bit of weight on board, it handled very well, actually a better ride with the weight on than empty.
