Here's my reply, just to keep you happy.
I have no idea.
I own a 200 Tdi, I'm not a LR mechanic, however, once I have tackled a task myself I will advise others on what the problem could be and how it can be resolved.
You'd be surprised how frustrating it can be also when you post an answer or possible solution and the person asking the question never let's you know if it solved the problem for them.
Take a chill pill, after all it is nearly Christmas!

I second that, it is a voluntary forum with guys who mostly have their own problems, but do help others. I have been amazed at the time and trouble people will go to just to help a complete starnger.
Not everybody logs on every day, so sometimes answers can take a long time if the particular problem hasn't been met by those logging on.
the other option is to use the excellent search facilty, as posts are archived, so you don't need to wait for an answer if someone has had the problem before.
the other solution is to buy a manual, as its Christmas time ask someone for one as a pressie! A parts list is also useful, save postage and buy both together.
The forum has many useful features, one is a buddy list, another is an ignore list!

Forums are a VOLUNTARY service, people help when ever they can. Maybe no-one has had this problem, but if you start bitching and getting arsey about not getting a reply as quickly as you would like - you'll become a marked man and you won't get help.
As someone elso said take a chill pill, it's Christmas, just relax.

NO, THEY'RE NOT !!!!!
I've had some brilliant help from the forum members here, and when I have an opportunity to give back, I do. Which is why I'm not keen on the tone of this thread initiator (think thats how it's spelt)
Happy Christmas to one and all,
Cheers

You can get to the top of the tank and it's fuel connections via a dish-sized panel in the floor, towards the back of the boot. That might help??
I had a leak problem and it turned out to be the pipe connections to the float valve in the tank.
I have piccies if you need them?

the Haynes is a DIY help.
The proper Rover service manual is almost sure to show how to do it, even if you have to look under 'removing and refitting tank'.
That is why the parts list is useful as it shows all the parts and where they go, and gives you anumber incase you have to order one..

I have the Haynes manual too.
It clearly shows how to access the pump and pipe connections,if that doesn't give you the answer,it also shows how to remove the tank,so you can see where the leak is.
Pages 4A.4 and 4A.5.
In the spirit of Christmas,I will reserve any further comment, except to say that no answer may mean no one who read your post knows and if you find out, perhaps you could share the solution.
Regards,
Nick.

can you go through the floor toi get at the tank from above?
does that mean i got the right answer?
yay for me...:)
Caravanman,
it appears to me that you are assuming that the first reply you got is the answer to your fuel tank troubles........
Identify the problem, then repair the problem.
Drop the tank and properly inspect the tank. The hole in the back floor is too small to really geat a clear picture of the tank top. Dropping the tank isn't a really big job, but it is made easier if the tank is empty.
Its the holiday season, you have to expect that replies will be somewhat slower at this time, as many of us (myself anyways) are running around from store to store making sure that we get the "right" thing that the kids wished for.
Happy Holidays,
Todd.

Good luck with it, another job on the 'to do' list, at least it isn't as old as my SII, and one day you may have a blank 'to do' list:)
It may help if you don't fill over half full.

I know when mine was leaking I felt awful leaving a trail of diesel everywhere, but a least it's not petrol.
Just remember that diesel on the roads is THE biggest danger for motorcyclists

You have to remember, we do have work to do outside the Forum. Some descriptions are vague, so we can only point to where to look or if we have had a similar problem, indicate that ( as I did). We are located all over the world at computer screens, so you have to give details, get a reply, have a look and get back to us.
The D2s do have problems over the tank with the plastic pipes rubbing through, but you have to meet us halfway by having a look and seeing where the leak seems to come from. Look for the highest point of the wet marks and that is where the leak is. You then come back, explain where it is or better still post a picture, then someone can tell you the best way to fix it.

Hey i am a stroppy fooker! well thats what everyone says so it must be true.
As said the top hole to small so drop tank measure pipe diameter then go to motor factors and buy a brass push fit coupling (not plastic) then replace damaged/worn section, cheap and a lot less hassle than waiting for landrover to get the bit in.
I have to agree ref the posting help bit, i post a few replies and very rarely do you ever hear anymore from the original poster, i dont want thanks just did it fix it or not?
And as i am a miserable git i sometimes think why should i give my years of hard earned knowledge away, i must be to generous:D.

Another thing remember most D2 are only now being worked on at home as people have always been to frightened of them before so will take a while for all the knowledge to become available.

The most modern vehicle I have worked on has been a Defender TD5 with a fuel pump problem. There was no hole in the floor at all, so we dropped the tank. I cut a hole out of the floor afterwards with a jigsaw for easy access to tank connections, and fitted a piece of chequer plate, secured with floor panel screws and clips. You might want to do the same. And be very careful with all the plastic connections. They are more fragile than a fibreboard wardrobe (edited to remove company name).

Likewise. Thanks are a bonus. What we really want to know is, did you fix it, if so, how? Or was it a totally different problem/solution.

Hang on BigJim. There are a lot of us miserable gits on here. Now some of you are older, well you and Roger are. :D But does that mean you are more miserable? ;) Look at young miserable Timbott. Even younger and grumpier Snagger. What about justmike? Some of the mods/site staff/admin write loads of useful stuff and never get thanks or feedback. (Can we stay on the forum a bit longer please?:)) And no offence meant to any of the above.;)
And we are guilty of not responding to our problem right now  so off to write something on the series III forum. :p
We have always said this is the most friendly forum to newcomers, IOHO. Haven't changed our opinion since we joined. The only reason why people don't respond, as said above, is that they don't know the answer, they are not around, and most of us are not professional mechanics/electricians/welders/engineers/panelbeaters or paintsprayers.
It's impossible to catch all the new posts but new members are always welcomed on here, even if they just post once and clear off. You get the benefit of the doubt on here, not the same on all forums.
As a thread title, on this forum, we think it's unfair, although at least you got the responses. Hope you sort your problem. If you do don't forget to let us know how, so much the better for anyone else with the same problem.
[/off rant]

PS What is a disco 2?
Caravanman sell your Disco and buy a proper Land Rover, a Series that is, the Series forum is a lot friendlier place to be :) .
Sheeeesh I didn't know that owning a Disco makes people so edgy.

Kevin,
Wouldn't you be edgy if you had to pay disco, or even defender, part prices?
Let alone garage repairs if you are really stuck.
Spot on advice though. ;)

Wasn't aware that being arsey was also an owners requirement but the title of this thread seems exactly that.
What is it with some people, why don't they ask for help instead of demanding a response? To be perfectly honest, even if I knew what to suggest to help this poster, with a thread title like this has, I just wouldn't bother responding.:o
