Need to replace the IRD and Viscous Coupling on my 99 Hippo, I've got a workshop manual and reckon I'm up to doing the above job. Has anyone else done this job and how hard is it???

The VC is a straight change.
The IRD, take the front subframe off, it's an easy job then.

I replaced the IRD on a 1.8 Freelander witbout removing the subframe.
It was done in a drive outside.
Nearly killed me getting the IRD up into position. If I had lifting gear
it would have been be much easier. The space is iimited between the bulkead and the engine and you have to push the engine forward but you can do it if you have the IRD supported from above and an assitant.
If you don`t have lifting gear then I woud agree take the subframe off but that`s a bit of a pain as well and again It`s going to be heavy to get back up.

That's why you take the subframe out. Just 4 bolts, the radius arms and the drop links to undo, then everything is straight forward. The frame is very light. You have to undo the radius arms anyway to get the drive shafts out, so half the job is done.
