Have a problem with a whining/groaning power steering pump which replaced a failed one a few months back. System was flushed so assume no swarf left. Replacement pump is new (not rebuild) and using proper LR cold climate fluid.
Despite thorough bleeding using LR method in Rave it is only marginally better. I must have flushed almost a gallon of this fluid through and can't believe there is still air in there. It's definitely the pump as any movement of the steering produces the groaning. Checked the filter in the base of the reservoir and it's clear so flow must be ok. Low pressure feed hose routed ok also and doesn't appear to be collapsing under pressure.

Is there a trick in bleeding these things that I'm unaware of? I must have read every post there is on D2 PS noise and running out of ideas now?

Check the connections for drawing air in. The pipe from the reservoir to the pump and the connector at the pump. Make sure the inner liner of the pipe isn't collapsing.

Thanks for the quick reply Chris - guess I should have a slightly closer look at that hose. Do they have a habit of failing at this sort of age (just over 76K now)

Dave.
