'98 Disco 1 Auto Box Illumination??

Hi all,

A new member here tryinbg to get an idea how to get new bulbs in position that illuminate the gear stick position on an auto box? Also, when they did work, the strips either side of the stick used to get really hot-is that usual on this model??
Any help gratefully received!

The lights on my autobox - series II Disco - are probably LEDs and they really don't create much heat. Is the auto working correctly in all modes, because the lamps go out if a problem is reporting?

Just had a quick look at the workshop manual for the Series I Disco 95-96 (Ok not 98 like yours) and it would seem that the bulbs for the Automatic Graphic Illumination (Which I'm guessing must be the Auto Box Illumination) are 12v 5W Capless

1) Disconnect Battery
2) Prise quadrant finisher out of surround
3) Prise Rear of surround awayfrom centre console
4) Pull Bulb holder from fitted position
5) Remove bulb from Holder

6) Refit is reverse of removal procedure

Hello all i think that the bulbs are only 1.2w if you put 5w in that is why they feel hot we get them from main dealer cant remember part no and not back to work till next week to look hope this helps.Wizz

I have a similar problem, when I bought my 98 series 1 the bulbs had failed and the guy put new ones in. They heated up incredibly hot and both have failed in the last 3 weeks (I bought the car in March).
I'm going to get some new onws when they open up after the holidays but will remember to check the lower wattage - thanks for the heads up.
