Hi guys, have a niggling occassional fault which developed about two months ago on my 98 freelander diesel - so here goes - occassionally when I disarm the alarm using the key fob and open the drivers door the alarm indicator lamp in the instrument cluster starts flashing rapidly accompanied by rapid bleeping for about ten seconds then it stops. If I'm quick enough I can stop it by pressing the key fob again. All electrics lights, windows, wipers etc. are working ok. I fitted new batts to the key fob but no luck. Tried locking with the key and unlocking with the key fob and vice versa without success. As said its intermittent and may do it tomorrow and then not for another three weeks. Car drives as normal. Any thoughts or ideas much appreciated. Happy new year, dru. :)

Hi Dru

Opening the drivers door and the lamp flashing rapid is something the vehicle does as a ruotine check on the system during arm & disarm or at least it is on my X reg.

The twist in the tale is the bleep.

My Freebie occasionally had a bad connection on the loom to the rear door lock and wouldnt always catch on the 2 stage lock.

Hence,, they alarm would bleep as an indication that a door or bonnett was partially open.

I can only suggest when it does it again, experiment by going around the car trying the doors in the locked position.

See how you go on!!

:) hi Cheshtent, thanks for reply- have tried all sensors and they appear ok - what is confusing me is if I leave a door open and try to arm the alarm the horn sounds which I would expect to get from a faulty sensor/switch - the bleep I get is four very rapid bleeps then a pause about the same time as the four bleeps and so on - this goes on for about 10 seconds and then stops - as I said everything works ok and car drives fine - just annoying I can't find the cause. cheers dru
