Hi
I took the wife's Hippo to the garage and left with a quote for mind numbing £1800+ to replace the IRD, VC and propshaft bearings.
I've since purchased these items new myself with the idea of doing this job myself!!!
Well, took the wheels off, took the under tray off (had to get a welder to get rounded nuts off) and drained the gearbox and IRD........then decided this job was too much for me. Now have put everything back on.
Is anyone on the forum in Essex who's done this job before and would be willing to do this job either on my drive or I can refill with oil and get her Hippo to you.
If so how much?

The IRD does look a daunting job, but it isn't that bad, it's just getting to it.

Have a look again. There are a few bolts that hold the front subframe on,the 2 drop links to the anti roll bar, the radius arms to the bottom of the struts and the IRD tie bar. That's it. You need the radius arms off the strut at the ball joint to get the shafts out, so you just undo it all and drop the whole subframe.

The IRD is straight in front of you, take the cooler pipes off, the end support plate, the 4 bolts that hold it to the gearbox and it's off.

Look at it again, get a mate to help and you should find it isn't that bad.

The VC and props are easy enough, you just need the female torqs type sockets, but at £12 a set, it's cheap enough.

I'm pretty sure a local forumeer will turn up and give you a hand. We can give you all the guidence, pictures and support you need.

I have replaced the IRD and propshaft bearings on a Freelander.
I`m at Langham a village 6 m north of Colchester on the A 12
I`m happy to help you do it if you want. Would be better to bring the Freelander up here
Any payment would be voluntary.

Really appreciate the offer but didn't think the car would get that far, ended up popping it in the garage. Also had enough of my wife moaning about how long her car would be gathering dust on the drive!!
Thanks again

Try fortune 4x4 in laindon, www.fortune4x4.com (http://www.fortune4x4.com) I get all my bits from them, they're cheap and the guys know what they are talking about, which counts for a lot in my books.
