View Full Version : Proposal from S3 Club

Frank from the s3/90-110 owners club is trying to establish a nationwide scheme to help Landy owners who have had their pride and joy pinched.

The scheme is as follows - if a member has his/her landy stolen, he/she reports it to their club/forum coordinator. The coordinator then immediately emails the details to all his/her club/forum members or posts on the forum. The coordinator also notifies the coordinators of the other clubs affiliated with the scheme and their coordinator then emails their members (or posts on the forum). This means that the many 1000s of landrover club/forum members - regardless of club affiliation - can be on the lookout for the missing vehicle in a very short time.

Apparently all Police authorities nationwide have been contacted, and those that have responded are in favour of the scheme. The only proviso they have raised is the promise that if the vehicle is subsequently found, that they be notified so that their officers can take the vehicle off their watchlist.

As the scheme is probably going to receive national publicity via landy magasines, news agency interviews etc, a sticker will be produced to be affixed to each member's landrover - hopefully to deter any casual/would-be thieves. Obviously, this is unlikely to deter professional ringing/stripping outfits, but its a start, yes?

This would involve small amount of time, and a minimal sticker cost (the figure of £1 is being considered at the moment), there shouldn't be any effort involved.

The thread discussing this is http://www.thelandroverclub.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3120 (http://www.thelandroverclub.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3120)

If any admin are interested in supporting this scheme via LRUK, could they contact Frank.

Certainly seems like a good idea in principle, would need to see how it would all work in practice.

Would you be able to contact Frank and offer support in principle?

My concern would be how information gets between clubs/forums without creating tons of spam and ensuring th message gets through to members.

One thought is to have a 'stolen vehicle rep' on each forum?

Sounds like a very good idea

One way of doing it would to have a separate website especially for the scheme with a database that contains owner details, vehicle details and a few pictures. Then when the vehicle is stolen, the owner can tell the database and the details will be sent to everyone who has signed up, it could also be setup to post a new thread in the stolen vehicle section of all the forums involved to get a larger response.

i would like to offer my support to this innitiative of stolen vehicle locating etc i however own a rangie not a series 3 lol can i still join in?
i use a tracking device which costs less than £50 and it doesnt use a yearly subsciption like others and its very reliable
maybe if we all put our heads together we could endup seeing a huge reduction in not only crime but insurance premiums too

Good idea.

What I have noticed is the number of fbay land rover sellers who when you go and look find its a Stolen Alert.

The sad news is some people are objecting to fbay its not for sale

Cannot the DVLA & the askmid database give a warning its slolen, would have though it was in the insurance industries interest.

Sorry TBM, missed this one somehow. I didn't say we are 'offering support in principle', I said 'it sounds like a good idea in principle.'

Like all these things however, it ends up adding a lot of work to a small number of people, and will it actually achieve anything in practice?

As for Frank, well the last (and only) time he contacted me he was threatening me with legal action in no uncertain terms, so if you want my own personal opinion, I personally don't intend to be getting involved in this scheme.

No problem. As a S3 forum user (not member!) I said I'd pass the idea and details on to the other forums I used. This I've done.

For it to work it needs the owners/admins of the forums to co-ordinate, co-operate and agree. This I can't do.

I would like to offer any support possible as our site deals with Land Rover parts and vehicles for sale .

We are currently creating a stolen vehicle section and would gladly accept any details of vehicles stolen and post them on our website.

As we monitor our listings we could compare any vehicle or parts listed to anything that has been reported stolen.

I have registered with the link to the original thread and waiting verification from their admin so that i can offer my support to the scheme.

if you require any info from me or would like us to add you stolen vehicle to our site please use this link http://www.landybitz.com/contact_us,page,content_pages

Martin
