Hi,
I have a 1972 Series 3, and am interested in getting a CB.
Can anyone suggest a small rig, that I can power from a cigarette lighter, and ideally a discreet (I know it won't be powerful) antenna, that will not make my Series 3 look like it has come off the set of Convoy!
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Many thanks,
Chris.

This Midland handheld (or the equivalent one from Maxcom) . Using its own rubberduck antenna inside the truck will be good enough for greenlaning in convoy use, but range beyond that will be limited. Comes with a kit to allow power off ciggy lighter and option of fitting external antenna. I suggest using an external speaker or ear piece as SIII noisey and handheld is quite (but in use you can usually pick it up and hold to ear and ask for them to repeat)
This will not ruin your SIII with a cb installation, wont make your truck look like a radio control model with a silly aerial. You can take it with you so not attractive to thief. You can use it outside in recovery situations and marshaling.

I used one full time in my Series truck. I now carry it as a spare in Defender to hand to others whilst greenlaning when they have no functioning radio.

PinkSeriesIII,
Thanks for your recommendation. The rig will be used on the road (motorways etc), so would prefer fixed item.
Will look at the link, though.
Cheers,
Chris.

i've got a small midland 38 in my 88 they are a very powerful rig and not that expensive as for the aerial if it's not permanent then just use a mag mount with a steel plate on the inside of your roof.

Like the look of the Midland rig, and I've looked at Thunderpole's website. A gutter mounted antenna could be the way forward.
Thanks,
Chris.
