Which set of wheels would snow chains go on, front wheels or rear wheels.

Fronts would sound logical as they drive and most importantly also steer;).

normal == snow chains go on the driving axle.

but when i used to drive coaches and the weather got bad i have used one on the rear and the other on the front (1 n/s the other o/s).

when first fitted drive for about 1/2 mile then recheck all are tight as they been know to slacken and cause a lot of damage, top speed with them fitted is about 25 mph and dont drive for long on clear roads otherwise they will wear out/break.

Doesn't that make life difficult for the diffs? Bit like cross-axling surely?

Bob
never had any problems,we still had drive and steering.
then it was only used this way when the going got tough.
