Short of the obvious "Pay someone else to do it" has anyone got any even remotely helpful hints for refitting the side windows around the boot area on a Disco 1?
Is it "Fit seal to car, insert glass" or "Fit seal to glass, insert in to car" or what?
Only wasted seven hours on this so far :banghead2: (on one window). Course, the cheap nasty not-a-hope-in-hell-of-ever-actually-fitting Landrover seals aren't helping. Cheap crap. :Cross:

The 10 minute job you are trying to do is easy when you know how. Ha ha.
Assuming you are doing the side windows, not the Alpines, you put the rubber on the glass. Thread a piece of string around the channel in the rubber where the metal of the body wiil fit once installed, and get a second person to offer it up. They hold the window in place as you pull on the string from inside the car. You have to hold both ends of the string, obvious I know. Also, overlap the string a little at the loose ends, it can also help to put a loop in the oppisite edge to the ends this will give you an optional point to pull from if it get a little tight.
Gentle even pressure from the person outside is al that is required. You can use lubricant if required, fairy liquid, etc but not really necessary.
This method does not work for the alpines, with them you put rubber in hole then feed in the glass, starting on the bottom edge. Putting the filler strip is the difficult bit, if you buy the correct tool from Machine Mart, or make a copy, using plenty of fairy it will take about 20 mins as well.
Hope this makes sense, if not send a phone no, pm and I'll talk you through it. Kevin, ex panel-beater, I've done loads of windows.

Thanks Kevin, it is the side windows I'm doing, not the Alpines. Done them before and they're are kitten play by comparison. I guessed there might be twine involved by the little notch cut in the seal presumably where the ends can be accessed.
Didn't really work though. The new seals were virtually solid, so I've spent roughly the last six hours teasing the seal back in using all manner of tools, and actually hammering the opposite edge of the glass to get the seal seated on the lip of the aperture. Total **** of a job.
Thanks for the hints though.
