Indicator stuck on

Hi, can anyone help? When I overtook a car the other day my indicator light stuck on. I stopped and tried my hazards to see if they worked and then they stuck on too. The green light on the dash for indicators stuck on too, and I had to take the terminal off the battery to get it off. Mechanic had a look but has not seen it before, can anyone help?
