Just spent most of Saturday replacing springs on my mates 2a which is powered by a TD with a 5 speed box running gear.
Alls well apart from the fact that now it is sitting 2" higher due to the new springs, the prop - which has been shortened to about 9" long (to accomadate the 5 speed box) vibrates as the angle of dangle is more acute than it was. It sits on 15" wheels with some big tyres on.
Any ideas - apart from put the old springs back on?
Any help appreciated.

You can get a special joint from some places for exactly that application. It is basically two UJs back to back so it spreads the dislocation over a greater length. I think some disco's might have had them fitted? But they are available as an after market accessory. Dont know if you can get them for a Series though. You might have to lower the gear box on the chassis mounts to decrease the angle of prop dislocation?
Good luck.:D

Thanks. Does that mean that as the double UJ joint is longer than the normal, there need to be sufficient slack to push the prop back to accomodate it?

You could go with Double Cardon (sp?) prop shafts fitted as standerd to Disco 2s, Expensive mind, for that length it might have to be a custom made its been 18months since i replaced mine
you can also get wide angle jokes on a standerd UJ a cheeper solotion
can you remove the prop shaft? there is a good engeniring shop in Honley ...

Cheers guys - will pass this info on
My mate is still very dispondant over shelling out £200+ on new springs which have made his truck worse - even thinking about converting it back to a petrol 2a!!

Check out http://www.propshaft.co.uk/profile.cfm .
I am having some vibration troubles myself with what seems to be both my props - remove one at a time and drive with difflock on . I don't know how bad yours are - mine vibrate at about 45 / 50 mph but only when i just lift off the throttle and the car is coasting .I have tried everything and am already on the HD wide angle jobs . Current wisdom seems to be that if the gearbox flange and diff flange are exactly parallel all will be ok . If however one is in line with the prop ( ie the diff ) and the gearbox UJ is doing all the work then that's when you get the vibration . From what i've tried out there must be more to it than that - i've had them parallel / out of phase etc etc .The known cure really is the cardan joint . Is your prop 9 inches long or shortened by 9 inches ?
Bad news being that at present the double cardan joint is not available ( from the propshaft clinic ) - it was before for about 65 quid . They are on back order and may be in at end of March i am told - with a large waiting list for welding in :(.
