Discovery auto problems

How is the stop light fuse connected to the park position on the auto gearbox? Could not budge the stick out of park on dads recently aquired 300tdi disco 1995 model, had to call out the AA and after a good look around the vehicle asked if the brake lights were working. when found that they were not, he replaced the blade fuse and hey presto, working gearbox again. Is this right? I cant get my head around this one, but we have both been used to series vehicles up until now. Any help please please please!!!:rolleyes:

There is an interlocker that moves when you press the brake, all automatics have something, either a button or solenoid so you can't shift to drive by mistake.

You can only start it in P or N for the same reason.
