Hi all

I am in the market to get a new car and have up to 5k to spend I notice looking in autotrader that i could get a really nice late P/R 300tdi or perhaps a S/T/V/W td5

which is the better bet for reliability etc I love the look of the newer ones but I can service etc the 300tdi a lot easier??

The TD5 is a smoother, more refined engine. If you can service a 300 , then you can service a TD5.

If it goes wrong, the cost is the problem, things ain't cheap. But as prices are going down, get a newer truck.

TD5.:)

Just swapped from a 300TDi Disco to a TD5 Defender. Should've done it years ago.

The clincher on the TD5 for me was the 3 proper seat belts in the back. The 300 tdi only has a middle lap belt which is useless for child seats.

I picked up a 2000 TD5 GS with 118k for 3950 6 weeks ago. I'm really pleased with it, especially since I blanked off the EGR valve. I've noticed a significant difference since doing that.

I also preferred ABS and Air Con which aren't too common on the 300tdi.

The TD5 also has a better sized boot and proper forward facing 6th and 7th seats.

Cheers

I've just changed to a TD5 after a couple of 300Tdi's. The Td5 is a much smoother and faster car but drinks the juice:eek: Its also loner than the 300 so with the seats in place you still have a reasonable boot area.

£5k souns an awful lot for a P/R Tdi. I traded mine in for £3k and it was a really nice R-reg automatic. I would plump for auto as well if you can afford one as they are just great especially in traffic..

Make sure you get a spare key with it (you see why if you read my other post:eek:).

Good luck

There are some real minters out there for that money though, and the market now seems to reflect the dropping of prices for TD5s whilst 300s remain as desirable as ever if not more so, I'm guessing because of their DIY appeal over a TD5?

They have their probs same as all cars, most of the probs are dead common and cheap and easy to fix, stacks of info on this and other forums.
