OK,
I have a leak from the transfer box area and my handbrake is not working well, so i beleive that the seals have gone and have coated the brake shoes with oil and made the handbrake next to useless, whats involved in replacing seal to transfer box and shoes? I understand that i must remove the prop-shaft and transfer oil, and then remove and renew the seal, do I have to replace prop-shaft bolts? I they any good online guides for this? I saw one months ago and cannot find it now, any clues anyone? This would make a nice article for this forum, I will try and document the replacement of the oil seals so everyone can see, anyway my new Landrover discovery manual CD is on it's way to me, it may have some information

I did the front seal on the 200 TDi a couple of years ago. It was pretty straight forward, I did it with the car still on its wheels in the drive.

I recall drilling a small hole in the old seal and screwing a self tapper in so I could use a normal prybar to pull it out as I had no seal puller. I can't quite remember now if I did the bearing at the same time or not. I also remember the mud shield can wear away and that can stop the new seal being so good but I doubt there is a mud shield on the rear one.

Putting the new one in was a matter of getting a piece of wood held flat over it and gently tapping with a hammer so it went in square.

I did not replace the prop bolts but I did change the nylocks.
