loss of power

While driving on the motorway in heavy rain, I started to intermitently lose almost complete power for about half a second at a time, before picking up again. Since then the "stuttering" has stopped but there has been a significant loss of pickup and power (maybe 30-40% down on normal). The same has happened before (also in heavy rain) and the answer was to fit a new air flow meter. This was only about a year ago. Can a Disco really be affected by rain in this way? Any ideas on a fix? Thanks.
btw, its a 2002 TD5

Culprit was the MAF again. The wires going into the electrical connector were a little exposed, so I wondering if there was water ingress which then cause failure. Anyway a new unit fitted and tape over the connector, hopefully that will be the last of the problem.
