Hi everyone this is my first post, and I hope you can help me.
My problem is this, I have a 1999 diesel Freelander the Rover L series engine. It has done 112,000 miles and I have it serviced regularly. Sometimes when I start it up in the mornings the oil pressure light takes a very long time to go out. This does not happen all of the time, only now and then. Some days it’s fine, then for no reason it takes ages to go out. If I drive on long journeys, the light will not come on when the engine is hot and on tick over. I cannot make it come on by slowing the engine down with the clutch when in gear, there is no knocking from the engine it sounds sweet as a nut.
I have been told it could be something under the oil pressure relief valve, is this easy to take out and clean and where is it? Is there a valve to stop oil draining back into the engine when not running if so where is it and is it easy to get at?
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated
Thanks

Would agree, sounds like a worn out pressure switch.
Can't help where it is though.

the oil pressure switch is screwed into the rear of the oil pump housing which is mountedonto the right-hand end of the cylinder block (straight from my haynes manual) looks like its near the driveshaft going by the picture in the haynes manual.
