What did the garage do to "fix" it? What was it that went wrong?

Does it start straight away after it cuts out? Just runs for a few seconds each time?

when i took into the garage it didnt start,
they took it to another garage had it scanned, it told them it was the diesel pump they put a new pump in and it starts, then cuts out after a few seconds then it can start up again after a few mins, thats as far as they have got, but now they have no idea its a puzzler

Which pump have they replaced, as there is more than 1 on the Td4?
Lift pump from tank
High pressure to 'rail
and I think another one.

Hope not, that's for a Range Rover!!!
Get them to check the high pressure pump as well.
Doesn't really sound as if they know the Freelander that well. Are they LR specialists?

no there not specialist they told me they have taken it to specialist, but they dont know either,, dont know if this is case or im being shafted

the pump was from the rear rh side
just got info from landyzone

"you got two low pressure pumps on your model [in fuel tank , and front rhside in engine bay] the one in fuel tank is normally the favorite to go tits. . .both pumps are controlled by the fuel relay [this times out with ign on after 10-15 secs] timing is derived via the fuel pressure switch. . . . .and are fed from the pump fuse , a very good test is to fill the tank up to the brim the extra height will force more fuel and it should run, if this is the case, then a good indication of faulty pump or pumps or a blocked fuel filter ,hope this helps yer"

sounds like i try to force the issue with a full tank first
