Engine malfunction warning light

AS anybody had this problem, I removed my battery for charging, and on refitting , all was well except the engine malfunction warning light stays on, any ideas, or is it back to the main dealers, to put on the test book.

Have you tried switching it on and off a few times?
Sometimes works.
