Can anyone tell me where i can find the oil and fuel filter on an X-reg 2000 TD4 freelander. I've been told you have to remove the 'belly plate' from underneath the engine compartment to get to them but i've broken two spanners and a socket trying to get the bolts undone to remove this. Someone else said that he thought you could get to them without removing this plate but wasn't sure?
Anyone got a definitive answer?
Hi Andy and welcome to the Forum.
The fuel filter on the early TD4 is in the engine bay in the passenger wing. Have a search as there have been a few threads on changing it as it is a bit fiddle.
The oil filter is behind the radiator and you get to it from the top. You will need a socket (34 or 36mm?) and an extension bar to undue the top of the filter housing.
You still need to get access from underneath to reach the sump plug. If you can't get all the bolts out of the skid plate you might be able to bend down the plate enough to get your hand in to undue the plug. Obviously you will also need to get something in there to catch the oil as it jets out.
Curse the 5 minute edit.
Here is a link (http://forum.landrovernet.com/showthread.php?t=102822) to a fuel filter thread.

Have located the fuel filter and the pesky little screw in question - think thats a weekend job!!
Would i be right in saying that the oil filter is located behind the raditator adjacent to the 'dipstick'??
Yep, that would be it.
It is not a conventional canister type filter. You undo the top and replace the filter element inside.
