Well I guess we could camp in our back garden, and call it camping field Z :D
Not sure it's really worth camping.. given we're only 7 miles up the road..
for those not camping, which days you thinking of going?

I still haven't recieved my tickets, so I'm not even sure I:mad:'m going. It'd be a shame, since the 109 is booked in for the Saturday run. I've already paid for it and the Heritage Centre won't even pick up the phone! Ben, give the guys a kick, will you?;)

Thanks for the offer Dave - I'd love to come, but .........
I have thirteen teams - Scouts and Exploders arriving Friday night at Downe Scout Activity Centre (Steve J's gaff) for the long weekend. The BNI Challenge Trophy has taken over my life and distorted my sense of time for months now.
Last Sunday we put up a 20x20 marquee, a 'circus type' 30x60 marquee, a 'spray tent' (metal frame, plastic 5Mx8M?), a load of smaller tents and 'built' a field kitchen in the small marquee. We will be feeding about 140 people and the kids will be 'on task' just about the whole of Saturday and Sunday.
I do this to myself every other year since 1998 and it's like hitting yourself in the head with a soft faced hammer - it lovely when it stops. :D I think I'm okay for Billing - as long as that's 18th, 19th, 20th July - we are going to Summer camp on the 24th! I don't want to miss that 'cos Ada110crew dances.

I haven't a clue what arrangements there are for the vehciles on the run - I'll find out in the briefing before leaving the factory. It was good, but felt a bit small on site. Then again, space is more limited than at some of the other shows.
The convoy was a bit of fun, especially how the police escorts stopped the other traffic so we could all pass crossroads, roundabouts and even red lights without interruption!:D We had to be pretty careful not to run anyone over on the main driveway at Gaydon, too - there wasn't much room between the vehicles and spectators during the arrival!

I also thought it a bit small and strangely set out,but they are limited for space.

Lack of trade was a shame - had money on me pocket buring a hole that didn't get spent:) £11 for two hog roasts and drinks was outrageous though
What I really liked was seeing loads of peeps. Ada and crew, Conkers and Lee, Parbs, JJS and smashing family, Hillbilly Raider, janet, Rafe, Simon Whitaker and Nick.
The Series 3 stand looked really great, brought back loads of memories of our first Land Rover. Having seen the classic 2dr Rangies and Velars I've decided I want another one - started pining for my 1973 classic in Sahrara Dust... and it would be a good project to do for the 40th anniversary in 2010.
There were some really unimaginative displays too - the Disco club on the main apron had a good collection of GWACs - the rest just looked like a Tescos car park to be honest.
Thanks for the lift to the car park Ada:) Much appreciated at the end of the day:)

I was parked just behind the SIs in Alan's left photo above. The commentator ignored us both times we passed the box, announcing the 88" behind us as the first SIII in the procession on both passes - I suppose he doubted whether the 109 was actually a Series LR, given it has a few Defender body bits on it. Some of the spectators were interested and took photos, but we could hear a few making fairly scornful remarks - there are always a few rivet counters at these things.
I had a chat with a few other cavalcade drivers, but didn't meet anyone from the forum.:(
I was a bit disappointed with the stands too, Conrad, though I did manage to get some ratchet straps that I was after. I was tempted by the olive green ali boxes on one of the stands too, but at £75 each, they were far too dear.
Hope everyone enjoys it, though.

Was quite an interesting event, we were tucked away at the back of the expeditions stand, and it was nice to talk to a few people who had read about our travels.
We also got our copy of 'First Overland' signed by Tim Slessor, which was nice.

I was with Widget so had to endure constant reminding that although I drove him all the way there and back in the TD5 it wasn't nearly as smooth as a V8.
Thought the show itself was a bit of a let down really and a major opportunity missed by Land Rover themselves.
It appeared to have been left entirely to the various clubs to do anything and despite admirable efforts (with top marks to the Series II & III Club) the whole event could've done with some corporate direction and identity. Not even the current model range was on display, no hospitality, no freebies, not even those naff Terrapod thingies.
And not much in the way of trade either.:(
Still, was good to catch up with some old faces, meet some new ones etc.
It was great to see the Lone Wolf Defender back in the UK and still looking so good. I did want to say hello Nick but at the time you were way-laid with another punter (although you did look a little bored ;)).
Missed Snagger completely, and thanks for the lift back to the car park Ada, the fella with the sheep fetish was starting to whinge that his feet hurt by that stage. Had to buy him a 99 to keep him happy.

We only got sent a single email at work about it.. apart from that there seems to be little interest by the company in informing it's workforce of the 60th year, and even less interest by the company in celebrating it with the current workforce..

Camping was not as good as previous years. Toilets packed in and water was not filled up enough and the showers were miles away. Didnt encourage us to go the quiz as one of us needed to drive.
Dont think there was as much going on as last year, kids loved the minis last year. Only just made it to the run got there at the last minute.
it was a laugh watching everyone getting dragged off the camping field this morning. :D We made it.
