I want to change the oil in my gearbox. The more I read lots of previous posts the more I get confused....

I think the box in the 200tdi is the LT77 and this seems to be a bit particular about lubricant. ATF Dexron II was originally recommended by LR but I've read that the advice may have changed as lubricants have developed.

So what do people use?

ATF Dexron II or III?
Synthetic MTL like Syntrans or Redline?
MT75D from Difflock?

Which gives smoother changes? Which seems to prolong life more?

Is that what they call MTF94? And isn't that supposed to be for R380 boxes
not LT77. Or am I over complicating this!!

The original technical bulletin of 1998 specifically said that MTF94 could be retro-fitted to the LT77 as well as the R380.

MTF94 is good if you can get it, but I reckon Redline MTL is better, and will last longer. More expensive, of course.

Yeah mtf94 ,its what the guy who does the big jobs i cant do to my landy told me was the best stuff to use ,i pay £8.50 a ltr ,although my gearbox has a slight leak when used on long journeys so i have to top it up a lot when on long trips, this becomes expensive :(
