Been under me dads disco 1 V8 EFI this morning, cleaning and proding around for rust:rolleyes: And I noticed a metal wheel thingy on a bracket from the diff. Its about 6 inces diameter and is solid metal. I was just wondering what it does, dosent seem to to do anything.

:D I've seen these and I've no idea what they are for. Help to prevent grounding maybe? :D

It's supposed to stop the whole shebang wobbling. Strange that the Defender has basically the same axle and doesn't need it.

Yes, it's a torque damper. It's just a big weight.

Thanks for the replies, but how does it work, is it suposed to spin around?

As the drive is applied down the propshaft and into the diff, instead of driving the road wheels, the "Torque reaction" tries to twist the axle. The radius arms try and compensate for this but obviously the design engineers/R&D at LR have decided that Disco's need some assistance. Probably due to the different T'box ratios.
Just seen your avatar by the way Schreiber :D :D :D :D :D

You may not have noticed that the bob-weight also lines-up with the main run of the 3.9 V8's exhaust pipe. And, when driving deep ruts, it forms a furrow which reduces the risk of damage farther back.
Coincidence? Maybe. But I think not.;)

It dosent line up with me dads exhaust? its got a straight through big bore pipe, so it may have bee routed differently.
