Just pottering around this morning and looked at a couple of site re LPG conversions and it struck my that I haven't heard of anyone on here thats done it. Veg oil, yes (like snagger et al) however, veg oil is now more expensive that LPG... :-0

So, anyone LPGd a series?

Cheers

John

My mums got LPG on the 3.9 disco, we braugt with the conversion. I belive its quite expensive to convert to LPG around £1500-£2000 IIRC. Its just a bit of a pain having to go out of our way to find a gas station:rolleyes:

I've got a kit in the shed. Just need to fit it. Cost £265. Will have to pay about £100 to get it certified once fitted.

Fitted LPG to my swb some time ago 2 40 litre tanks, one under the passenger seat and the other under the load floor behind the rear axle. It's done around 10K since mind you fitted a v8 about 8k ago so the gas has proved very worth while

Aimbones,

where did you get the kit from? Did they do series especially? Was the underseat tank a standard one for them?

Cheers

think the same as derbyleighton when the majority of people who fit gas conversions hits the 55% mark. gordon brown will put the price of lpg up like tony blair did with unleaded petrol.

Did my 109 last weekend. very easy
Electrics were easy too
Very easy to tune up

The whole thing was surprisingly easy
In fact I had Murphy's 6th law on my mind near the end
If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something
But no, it works great.

Cost £180. The tank came 3/4 full of gas so made a saving there to

Mine had the conversion when I bought it & it runs great. Looks pretty simple to set up.
You'll drop a few mpg from petrol..the way prices are going you may be better sticking a 200TDI or DI in there though.

well my p38 4.0se runs pretty well on lpg, there is a power loss and maybe a mpg loss but as it was converted when i bought it who cares, gas 55.9p/litre V petrol at 108.9p/litre. i have 110 ltr lpg in wheel well and 100ltr petrol tank, if i save 40 quid using gas rather than petrol it wouldn't take long to recoup the cost of buying and fitting the kit myself!!

if your confident and can get a suitable kit(multipiont preferable, but single point would be easier to fit) then go for it! after all it can always be removed and put on fleebay!

Well since gavbriggs has bumped the article up ...

So, anyone LPGd a series?
Yes, I know of a few that have been done - probably one of the simplest vehicles to convert and well worth it. Also, since the carb is likely to be 'getting worn' then there is often plenty of scope for improving performance/economy/emmissions - in the case of my mates motor, the SU conversion was never right (it really needed a setup session on a rolling road and the jets/emulsion tubes selecting properly) and it really did run a lot better on gas.
You might like to look at this article (http://www.diy-lpg.co.uk/Articles/Entries/2005/1/1_Rally_Prepared_Series_II_III.html) on my site. And in this article (http://www.diy-lpg.co.uk/Articles/Entries/2008/5/31_Installation_Rules_Part_1.html) and this article (http://www.diy-lpg.co.uk/Articles/Entries/2008/7/13_Installation_Rules_%26_Bits_Part_2.html), most of the pics are of the gas conversion on it. The tank could have been done without the valve box and ducting, but he wanted it done so that it was still 'legal' if he put a tailgate on it. My mate did all the mechanical and plumbing, I did the electrics, on this conversion.

Forget injection, unless it's had a rather newer engine conversion then there is no existing injection system to piggyback off. If you were really going for ultimate power on a specced up engine then you could go for a standalone injection system, but if you were doing that then I'd suggest most people would start with a newer (and more comfortable) vehicle to modify.
