View Full Version : Rear washer

Have managed to get the rear washer jet out of the body to clean it out - but there is only about 1/2" of pipe spare even after giving it a good pull :frown2: This is not enough for me to safely remove the jet without losing the darn pipe inside the bodywork.
Does anyone know how to get to the back of the jet so that I can insert an extra length of pipe?

If yours is a TD5 remove the rear trim panel. In there is a small one way valve. This gets blocked, the only thing to do is replace it.

Should have mentioned, it's a 96 300tdi.
I've already tried accessing it via the rear speaker hole but there is no way through after removing the speaker.

I had the trim out on mine recently to look at this very job - I'm going to extend the pipe across the roof under the headlining, then down the other pillar to the loom connector into the door. From there its going out of a hole and grommet in the back door to a wiper-arm mounted nozzle. Just have to get some pipe and drill a hole, I've got everything else.
I noticed when looking at it that I could have extended the pipe as it is, but I like the idea of the nozzle on the arm. All you need to do is pull the grommet out and the pipe will come with it, get a new length of pipe and a one way valve or straight connector, push the grommet onto the new pipe and down a fair way then feed the pipe back through the hole, refit the grommet then outside fit the jet back on, job done. If getting the pipe through both holes is a bit tricky get a welding rod or such pass that through both holes and tape the pipe to it from the inside and then pull the rod back through.
Other then that its a corner panel off job.....

Remove the whole rear speaker trim panel and you can get your hand inside a hole further up - watch out for sharp edges!!!
The actual pipe runs down the inside of the nearside gutter - forget the correct name - but reach in and up and you will find it.
