I noticed a few days back that there was nothing there when I tried accelerating and then the car "jumped" a little. Yesterday when I tried putting my foot down, it seemed as though the car was really struggling for fuel and then the engine cut out. Got the AA out and the thing started after a bit of a struggle and seemed to be ticking over just fine. An hour or so later I went back out for a drive and the engine cut out twice... similar to the initial problem of jumping then all I can describe as fuel starvation and then engine cut out. Now I cant get it started - it just seems as if there's no fuel getting through to the engine - the one time I managed to start it my neighbour described it as "missing"... this means nothing to me as I know diddly about cars. Any ideas anyone? Before I take it to the garage that is.

Had a fuel filter changed recently (the one under the rear offside wheel arch) and the car appeared to be running fine.

Disco series II TD5 W reg by the way.

Ignition on, but engine off, listen by the drivers side rear wheel, you are listening for the fuel pump humming, should do it for about 10secs ish.

No hum and pump is dead.

I am on my second one in 55k

Also check inertia switch under the bonnet passenger side by the turbo make sure the button is pushed down.

Couls also be fuel filter blocked as per piccy!

Theres a wire on my fuel pump thats vibrated loose twice now. if you poke around at the wires it will probably just come off (if its that). What happened to me sounds like similiar symptoms to yours.

Hi guys sorry for butting in but everything that was said rang true for me too . Went home and made a test lead and wired the pump direct onto the battery - no noise ! Went to my local LR dealer and mentioned the problem and the price on ebay - LR lists the price at £187 + vat - they discounted the vat and after a bit of a fight I managed to fit a new pump - primed and started first time ! One very happy customer - job done !
Thanks again .
