Anyone got/tried Cooper ST's? Going to be used mainly on road/motorway but would like something for the Snow and pulling trailers about muddy fields and a bit of offroading. What are noise levels like compared to Standard road tyre and handling on the road? I am running BFG AT's and although I find them good and they have worn well, they are coming up for changing and I would like something a bit more "muddy". Also does anyone know where is the cheapest place to buy Coopers?!

They are a good tyre actually, never tried them on a Disco, but have on a defender.
Thought about AT2's?
I have a set on now, 30k on they are great with very little hum and do the job fine on or off the road. They will be replaced with the same.

I've got 4 in my garage waiting for my BFG AT's to finally wear out. I bought them because they look great and are a sort of compromise between ATs and MTs. But I hear good reports from other users, which is why I bought them in the first place.

Thanks littledude, Who is it that makes the AT2?. I have seen them advertised but cannot think of the manufacture. Are they chunky enough to be good in mud?

Thanks for that Jim. Do you get much mud down there?:)

Not a lot of mud, mainly rocky and sand, sometimes very deep sand in Botswana. And I have got stuck twice back in the old days with General Super All Grip radials in very wet sand, once with an invisible stream under the road. Pretty useless tyres and after that I fitted a Detroit locker and have not got stuck since, even in pretty deep mud. I could easily get stuck now as the BFG ATs have almost no tread left, I am using them on the road till the end.

hi there
i use cooper st's on my 99 td5 disco had them on now a little over a year and have put 16000 miles on them. and believe or not they show no signs of wear.
i use them both on and off road and some areas are quite muddy. in fact they perform quite well i have a shoot in my local forest and the tracks pits get muddy and i tow a trailer with a ton of wheat onboard and they plough through ok.
i highly recommend them and i also will be renewing with the same.

I have AT2s on the disco, its on 18in rims so not alot of choice.
I have put 28k on them in 18 months, not as hard as BFGs but they grip well onroad in both the wet and the dry
I have not got stuck with them on, some greanlanes and mud lots of campsites!
used in snow both on road and off - no problems if sencible
The side walls are not as tough as some but I have not damaged one myself

I've been running 17" ST's on my D3 for over a year - they are a bit whiney compared to standard road tyres but grip well in the mud. Not convinced they are as 'stable' in the wet when cornering but overall an excellent compromise tyre

Thanks all for the observations. Now all I need to do is make a decision and do a deal;) Grant
