I have a (2005) discovery 3 which I had from new.
Approx 6-8 months after I purchased it I had an intermittant problem with the remote control not always locking/unlocking the doors. Literally sometimes it worked, other times it didnt.
Eventually after taking it back twice pilling fixed the original problem claiming the Vehicle battery was leaking (a dubious excuse).
Now approx a year and a half later the problem has started again and when I take it to pilling the problem never happens when I take it in, so they say they cant do anything about it and also claim they have no record of the problem happening to my vehicle before.
Can anyone please tell me if they had a similar problem with the door remote control working intermittantly?
Both my remotes (the spare also) do the same thing, so i believe the remote itself is not the problem, maybe the receiver on the car.
the car is still under warrenty.
Please help....

When was the batteries last changed in the remotes?

(The leaking battery the garage talked about, was it not the one in the remote, which would then mean it was not getting full power from it.)

What I find with my remotes is that when the batteries are running down they work intermittant, as the signal is not as strong, and anything can interfere with the signal.

First step would be to change the batteries, as it is a simple and cheap solution before thinking the worst of the vehicles electronics. (Tesco's etc sell them for a couple of pounds.)

What they could mean is the vehicle battery is draining due to something still being on ( battery current leakage) we do get problems with vehicles when the battery is low.

Mercedes and Renaults start to lose functions, a lot need the windows recalibrating, that sort of thing. It's mainly when they have been standing on the pitch.

Hi, I dont know when or if the batteries were changed on the remotes. The remotes I have are the type that recharge when in the ignition. I know that means they will need changing at some point. So I guess I will take them in to Pilling Landrover as I cant see a way of getting in and replacing the batteries and I dont want to damage the Remote Controls as the vehicle including the remotes are still covered by the warrenty.
Thanx for your advice anyway. Much appreciated

Hi chris, They did change the Vehicle battery when it originally happened and that seemed to clear up the problem. I dont know what else they did. However they wont even look at the problem unless the problem appears while the vehicle is at Pilling Landrover.
here is an example......I have noticed that when i get home at night I can't lock the doors with the remote control but in the morning the remote works fine. This happens with both remotes.
It's becomming really annoying.
Thanx anyway.
Regards.

my bet is that the door lock actuators, any one of them could be the culprit. The toothed gearing in the mech are only made of plastic and are prone to stripping themselves. Consequently, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.
