Hiya
Just been offered a cheap 2001 TD5 Disco. Its quite shabby but the main worry is the oil in the water. Its not the head gasket.Suggestions please.
Could it be the water cooler in the oil system.I believe they are a weakness.Top hose keeps going as well. The guys loaded and just ****ed of with it.Do i take a chance. Its an auto with leather.
Thanks
Terry

Yes, possibly the autobox cooler. If the oil/water is white or a red tint. The box level would be dropping and bad gear changing or slipping.
Disconnect the pipes and join them together temporarily and see if it stops the pressurising.
It's a common fault on autos that is wrongly diagnosed as a HGF.

Thanks Chris
Next question might be.What sort of job is it to fix?
Thanks

If it's just the cooler given up, then a radiator. If it's a problem in the box and the pressure is too high, then it's a bit more serious.
I'd bypass the pipes and see how it goes. Flush the water system and change the gearbox oil for a start. There could be a sticking relief valve. You can fit a pressure guage on the box and see if it's too high.
The oil does get hot, that's why engine coolant is used to cool it, so don't go mad and drive hard or for miles with it bypassed, just to prove if the cooler is split. You could block one connection and use comprressed air, that would show up a leak.
