Hi
I am having problems with my Air Con Fan i have just fitted a new one as the old unit had seized up. I have tested the new fan to make sure it's not faulty and works fine , but once fitted to the car it doesn't seem to work .
I have checked all the fuses etc and all seem to be fine .
Should the fan operate when the air con is switched on or should it just work when a certain temperature causes it to cut in, if this is the case i guess there will be a temp sendor located somewhere which tells the fan to operate ( where is this located).

Only comes on when its needed, i think outside temp above 25 deg

The evaporator switch controls the aircon ( it's a thermostat), the one behind the bumper is for the engine management. ( often fails on Vauxhalls)
As Lynall says, it only comes on when needed, like in traffic, when there is no airflow.

Think this will help this refers to my Discovery 2 51 plate
If you are referring to the fan just behind the front grill in front of the condenser matrix the chances of it ever working are pretty slim. I had a leak in one of the a/c pipes and the guy who fixed it found that the fan was seized solid. After a bit of research I found the following in the Land Rover manual, I did however replace the fan with a working one.
'While the a/c system is on, operation of the electric cooling fan to assist refrigerant condenser operation, is determined by a combination of vehicle speed and external air temperature. When cooling fan operation is required, the ATC ECU outputs a cooling fan request to the ECM, which then energises the cooling fan relay. The cooling fan request is output if vehicle speed is 80km/h or less while the external air temperature is 28c or 82f or more. The request is cancelled and the cooling fan switched off if either the vehicle speed increased to 100km/h or the external air temp decreases to 25c or 77f'.
So you see no wonder the fan seizes through lack of use in this country
Hope this helps
