Hi,
My washer bottle stinks of horrible stagnant water (I am trying to sort out problems on this car, only had it at year and sorting out all the probs on it, and have had enough of the horrible smell). I know it is definatly the washer bottle as I have put me nose in it (or as in it as possible).
I have tried just running the hose throught the bottle but I think it needs more than water. Was going to try and take it off, to try and sterilise it somehow, but the2 bolts underneath the bottle are stupid!!! How the hell are you supposed to get a screw driver in under the bottle to stop the head from spinning???
Anyway........ Anyone got any ideas of what I could but in the bottle that would clean it out??? I mean I cant put bleach in cause that would knacker up the pumps wouldnt it????
Hope this all makes sense.
Cheers

Some washer liquids smell foul, might have ammonia in it but assuming it's stagnant you can put bleach in it and it won't harm the pumps but it might harm the paint if too concentrated so after leaving it to work for a while disconnect the washer jet pipes before running it through them and emptying completely. A small amount left won't hurt when refilled.

if its a disco 1 then the underneath bolts are 11mm A/F and the top I think 17mm thats the ones moded in the plastic but turn anyhow.
Just try letting it dry out completely and use screen wash which normally contains ethanol, can use it neat as in winter.
Worth using proper screen wash all year round but different concentrations, it stops stuff growing in it and keeps the little nipples from sezzing up.

My car washer fluid stinks like a stinky thing that stinks on a stinky day.
I put loads of full concetrate wash fluid and it now smells like it should do.
But i do think the manufactures of said products have made changes to the stuff we put in our washer bottles as i never used to have this problem.

It is the concentrate, too much of some brands promotes bacteria growth. It is a common passtime for us to clear the slime out of Vauxhall washer pump filters.
Baby bottle sterilising tablets or fluid helps.
A blast out with a steam cleaner does as well...

Drain it out fully and flush through with water. Then add a healthy dose of milton sterilising fluid. DONT use the tablets cos if they dont dissolve fully you'll have little bits of tablet gumming up the pipes! That should kill whatever is growing in their to make the smell, while being harmless to rubber seals and paintwork.

Cheers people.
I have sorted it, had some Milton under the sink, poured some in, left it overnight, put hose pipe in and overflowed for 10 minutes, and now it doesnt smell any more!!!
Thanks for the help!!!
