When you turn the handle on a Maggiolina, does it use a chain to drive the far end? Do you need to put props up inside once it is up? Just trying to get my head round how it works - like a screw jack, I imagine

Hi there,

I don't know how it takes drive to the far end (I havn't had a look yet) but they do indeed use a screw jack style affair. You don't need any props as the tension in the canvas sides keeps everything in place once its up. Whilst the sides are loose the roof can flop front to back and side to side.

I've owned my Maggiolina Safari for 2 years now and I've just finished rebuilding the 110 and put the tent on the roof. Its been stored inside my garage and in that time it hasn't got mouldy or degenerated in any way - we are very happy with it. Its quite light and sleek looking. I've fitted H/D suspension to our camper and the tent has only added a slight roll when taking corners. When zipped up it was pleasantly warm and civilised.

Although expensive I think it is definitely worth it for ease of use and practicality.

That looks a really sorted 110 mate, ready to go places.

Nice setup :) I've got the exact Maggiolina on my TD5. They're heavy b*ggers aren't they!

You must be King Kong!! The last few Ive fitted onto customer's roof-racks have been REALLY heavy.

Unless it's an airlander. The one in the pic (safari) is very heavy.

Although I think it's superior to the lighter more streamlined airlander as you can leave all your bedding and pillows up there and not have to remove them when closing the tent.

Nice looking landy. How are those wheels mounted, how do you open the door?

Thanks,

Daniel

The end mechanisum is driven by a bycicle chain on one side.

Hi there,

well I wouldn't describe the tent ( it is a Safari) as heavy - I'm only a little bloke and two of us lifted it about with ease. Mind you we did use a fork lift to put it up on the roof bars!

I don't want to hijack the thread but the spare wheel carriers are bolted through the cross member only and open outwards on large hinges on the ends of the cross member. This means that the back door can only be opened once both of the carriers are opened. This can be a pain at times but it does mean an extra layer of security once the carriers are locked shut.

Link to all of them here (http://www.autohome.it/file_gb/magg_carbonfiber.html) Luke. I see there's a carbon fibre one now.

Mine's the 'Extreme' model.

My model isn't marked on it anywhere. Don't know about the others. Can you check by dimensions?

Check here Bud

Think they have dimensions on there.

I like the Safari A) unlike the Airlander you can leave a considerable amount of bedding in there and it shuts fine B) The safari tan looks nicer and matches my Epsom green 90 better than the blue. ;)

Mmmm dimensions are similer right across the range, mine looks thesame as widgets, same style or ribbing on the roof etc, same blue, same matress cover, so maybe he know wha the got :)

Think it is an airlander, but as said they come with one dorr according to the spec, i have two, althoug it did say you can get ans extra door?
