Anyone out there experiencing porous casting on Land Rover parts. I am buying genuine Land Rover parts from a reputable Land Rover specialist. So far 2 steering relays on a Series One have had holes in casting and now the lift pump in my Discovery 300 TDi. At all times they have been replaced no questions asked so service from company has been faultless but is this a quality issue with LR parts other are experiencing or is it just localised to New Zealand some how?

They only send the "A" grade parts to the South Island.:D

Are they genuine LR parts or pattern parts?

Well Jon I can see the South Island if I stand on the roof of my house but that still doesn't help.
And Satan they repeatedly state that the parts are genuine Land Rover.

But as I said before the company has always replaced parts with out any fuss so no fault on them.

Sorry - just jealous of where you live !
How are the parts packaged, genuine stuff besides having the LR logo all over it usually has alot of other info on it.Suprised they even still supply steering relays, they ought to be fine and the lift pump ought to be good too - normally I see some really shoddy pattern ones of those on cars.
The other thing that occurs to me is that if you are buying from a franchised LR dealer then the invoice would normally have the part #'s on there so they would probably be infringing some sale of goods law if they didnt make the origin of the parts clear.
Not been to NZ since 1998,are there still lots of Triumph 2000/2.5Pi's around,it was good seeing them being driven hard on gravel roads !

No not a franchised dealer but one of the better suppliers. Invoice has genuine LR part numbers but pump arrived wrapped in bubble wrap in a courier parcel. Maybe they buy stuff in without packaging to save costs? Anyhow they are sending a replacement down to me so should be here monday.

Funny you should mention Triumphs as they are as well as BMW GS motorcycls are another of my weaknesses. Though I only have Vitesses these days. I used to own a rare Mk1 2.5PI Estate mod till a **** totaled it by rear ending the car at a railway crossing. The saloons are getting fewer on the roads these days but are still out there if you look, my brother has a 2500 S for sale at present.

To further your jealousy we just did an 11 day trip around the South Island in my 300TDi Discovery. Bloody fantastic in winter as long as you keep off the main roads as much as possible which is where the Discovery is at its best.
