Hello, my 1995 300tdi has two problems with the electrics.

1, The rear electric windows don't work. I fiddled with the switches some time ago, they then worked but stopped again the next day. I don't think it's a switch problem. I have found a control unit under the glove box and wonder if this may be at fault?

2, The wipers don't self park. Would this be a relay or is it controled in the wiper motor?

If I had to get new relays would I have to get them from the main dealer?

Many thanks if you can help with these anoying problems.

The wipers have two brush contacts for parking that wear or break off. Drill out the rivets on the switch cover to expose them and solder a short piece of stiff copperwire on to the remainder, you have to get the length right as they can short circuit on the revolving contacts. Use self tappers to refit the cover. The motor is quite easy to remove from under the bonnet after taking off the wiper arms.

The rear window problem is likely to be switch related.

Thank you both, It looks like a soldering iron may sort out my woes then!

The repair that is mentioned for the ecu, does that invove soldering inside it? Does a lid come off it to get acsess? Could you tell me what to look for please.
Many Thanks.

you might not see it burnt it may look like a slightly cracked soldered joint but it is a known fault . alan...

Yes thats where it's located, bit fiddly to get out. I've not had a chance to look at it again yet, non stop rain at the moment so not likely to need them working for a bit!

I have now fixed the wiper motor, it was as you said. I made a new contact and soldered it on, works a treat now thank you. Will try to fix the windows tomorrow.

It took a lot of finding but there was a cracked solder joint. I had to use a magnifing glass to see it (it showed as a ring half way down the joint).
The windows are working fine now so thanks for your help.
