We just drove 6 hours from picking up our "new" 1999 Discovery I (68K, V8i) and have some first impressions...

1. I'm amazed at the quietness. The drive was from Vancouver BC down I-5 and even with the trucks and all it was amazingly quiet in the cabin.

2. It rained heavy (imagine that) and was surprised that we hydroplaned a couple of times (quality Michelin tires with about 80% tread). Wasn't expecting that.

3. Relatively good gas milage (19 mpg).

4. Really like the comfort of the drivers seat

5. We folded down the middle seats for the dogs and we need to get a ramp or something for them to come to the front. They are little and kept falling in between the seats. (With the exception of the "portly" one who kept on getting stuck)

6. Steering was somewhat sloppy. There was some play in the steering but maybe that's just the way it is.

7. Need the g-d-mn radio code!

8. Really liked the slots above the visors...great for wallet and glasses

Things to do:
1. Change all fluids
2. Fix the latch on the back door currently it's stuck
3. Check the steering linkage. Beyond me so I'll have to take it in for that.
4. Needs a good detail. Although it was clean, the paint is beginning to ghost over. I should be able to improve if not get it all out.
5. Passenger seat electronics aren't working. Fuse? Switch?
6. Fix the cruise control
7. Check breaks. A little soft. No noise, just soft.
8. Need to get an owners guide. Never owned a 4 wheel drive like this and not sure of all of the buttons etc
9. Cross my fingers when I give it over to our girls!

Anyway, that's about it.

Will be looking for answers I'm sure. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute some information as well.

Take Care

:) Remember being delighted with the comfort and pleasure of driving my original Discovery 200, though I guess the hills of Scotland are pretty tame compared with BC? Now have a 2004 Td5 ES and it's even better (though I do wonder about all these electronics). Good driving.
PS - A V8,eh - how much is fuel across there?
