TD5 blowing oil

Bvudzi's TD5 (my daily driver) has suddenly started blowing oil out of the exhaust pipe. The ledge behind the back door and the spare wheel cover are now riddled with little black oil droplets. I don't know much about diesel engines and was wondering what the problem could be and what I can do about it.

Are you sure it's coming out of the exhaust? You can get this effect with oil leaking anywhere out of the bottom of the vehicle - engine or gearboxes. The back of the Disco makes a nice vacuum and sucks everything up onto the spare wheel, window etc.

I had another look. The oil level has stayed constant, so it's not being blown out the back in any great amount. The exhaust pipe is sooty but not oily. I suspect with recent rainy weather, road grime and a bit of exhaust soot on the white bodywork, it's looked like oil blow - but actually isn't.

At least I hope so..
