Last year I upgraded to Koni suspension which is the business:D

However this year I feel the back end is getting a bit sloppy and that the drivetrain is making some funny clonky cliky noises at low speeds. I presume maybe I need to change some bushes etc for both small problems.

Could someone point me in the right direction as to what I need to buy. Bought the Konis from Paddocks, very good service.

Thanks

(Am being a bit lazy, but I feel sure someone will know exactly what I need.)

To sort out a noisy back-end (steady in te ranks!!) you will be a rear suspension bush set, from Paddocks plus a new 'A' frame ball joint.

Now, that was easy enough wasn't it??

Cool, an attempt at a response in French - well done.

I can't remember but have you put new oils in the gearbox, trans box & axles yet.

When I did this on my wife's tdi200 it was loads quieter. I used fully synth stuff from www.difflock.com (http://www.difflock.com). Not cheap but I reckon very good.

Btw, I like GS's too !!

Thirteen years in Belgique I speak very well, never needed to type.

Have not done anything to my disco in the three years I have had it apart from the shocks (oil and filters of course). Maybe I will give it a go.

Hi Rowsi, there's lots of things you can do to Disco's, cheaply, to make them run better/more economically, so when you're ready give me a shout and I'll run through them with you.

Doing the oils in the boxes is made MUCH easier if you can get a hold of one of these: SORRY, CAN'T FIND THE PICTURE. It's a pump with a flexy hose on one end, and a fixed pipe (that goes into the oil container) on the other

Available from all good DIY stores about £1 !!

It's a hand-operated fuel pump, excellent when refilling gear & trans boxes.

Dave,

As I'm sure you know you can also get those serringe type suction things which you can use to extract all the old oil from diffs. They are about the size of a grease gun but with a suction action...very usueful and saves a great deal of clearing up.

NOTE: When doing your diffs, loosen / remove the filler before you take out the drain plug...or you may find it is seized and end up red faced with an empty diff!

good luck
J

Sorry Stevie, because the quote was all in italics, I didn't see the portion you had highlighted.

Incidently, I've just taken another picture of the pump I use for doing my oil changes.

See below.

Re modifications and improvements, these are the ones I've done to mine with their respective costs and benefits:

1. Remove viscous fan - cost nothing, benefit: reduced noise & improved mpg;

2. Remove the EGR valve and replace with new plumbing - cost £20, benefit: cleaner burning engine, better hill climbing & towing, slight improvement in mpg;

3. Remove the catted exhaust downpipe & replace with non-cat item - cost £21.25+vat, benefits: much improved peformance, turbo spins up more quickly, better mpg;

4. Remove ARB's (anti-rollbars) - cost nothing, benefits: smoother ride and more natural handling.

Hope that's of interest.
