I found this rubber block behind where my Disco 200 tdi was parked overnight.

Any ideas as to what it is or if it's off my car? It's rubber, about four inches long by 2 inches high / wide. It has rust on the back as if it's detached itself from somehwere.

Any help appreciated!

Bump stop?

It's a bump stop, sits on the chassis above the axle, you'll have four of them.
Well, three now since one fell off.

Thanks for the replies.

Is it difficult to fix?

Just been out to have a look and it's come off from the passenger side rear. I've phoned Fletchers in Queensferry, (the dealer I bought the car from) and they'll fit another one later this week under warranty.

Many thanks for the help and replies!

Hi there, these bump stops are a block of rubber bonded to a cheap bit of steel consequently they rust. If this one has gone and the garage is in the mood for changing stuff under warranty, I'd be inclined to check the others, as said 2 on the front axle, 2 on the rear.

If they don't stump up, they are cheap to buy and easy (2 bolts) to fit.

Cheers

Thanks Dave.
I have to say that the garage have been excellent and I would recommend them to anyone else in the area.

Warranty + 200tdi:D

That's brilliant, what the name of the garage? Not many would give a warranty on a car that age. Well done buddy! good work!

If only the garage knew what they have let themselves in for. Look over the entire car and comment on any rusty bits - that should keep them busy for a while!

Good luck with the bump stops, as Dave says, easy job need a clean fail for MOT...

Fletchers in Queensferry, North Wales, part of SHB (http://www.shb.co.uk/northwales)

I looked at quite a few before buying this one - my target was a diesel discovery under £2000. It was a bit old, but had a full service history and only done 78k and rove really well. The garage serviced it for me, put on a new cam belt and 12 months MOT.

We're very pleased with it, on last tank we got 41mpg.
