Is the lever refusing to budge or flopping about?
Gearboxes that are only used "on road" rarely get put in to low box and the shifter sometimes sticks in place through that lack of use. If this is the case then you are going to have to be a little brutal with the lever and work it back and forth until it becomes unstuck. It may go very suddenly so beware.
... will continue later have to go

Engage Drive a let the vehicle move forward very slowly holding it back on the brake and push the transfer lever forward hard and keep it there and low range will engage with a glonk.
Also go here and down load an owners manual for the disco which tells u what do do. http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree2viewlrprod/index.jsp

I had this with mine and the only way is to keep trying to push it forward and as stated, put it in gear, hold the brake move slowly, try again and so on.
As for diff lock...well...mine is still stuck. do a search on either this forum or the www for stuck difflock and you will see an article on how to fix it though, you will need some time to fix it. I've sprayed my "undercarriage" with WD40 and need to re-apply but nowt so far...next step is more involved as it means taking the column out...trick is to keep trying it and keep giving it nudges.
Problem is that the whole thing, through lack of use, seizes up and corrodes into place meaning that when it comes to using low or diff lock...it does not work.
Best find out now than in a moment of need.
Good luck, tell us how you get on.
