Doesn't the Disco box has a longer bell housing and hence a longer input shaft as well?

I have not had direct experience of the differences but I have asked my engine supplier when I picking up my 300tdi if a disco box could be used in future on my defender his answer was no. Not without modification to seat box as the gear selector is in different position (rearward).

So that means at least the selector rod and gear linkage parts are different. They call the disco boxes 'short stick'. I think the bellhousing itself is the same. There is a shorter bellhousing but that is an issues raised in 200tdi and r380 being mating not for concern of 300tdi disco vs defender as far as I know.
You will need to find out from others if the main shaft will be a different length. Seems google has a few answer of difference if no help comes on this thread.

doesn't sound like it'll be too difficult to convert it, being as i'm gonna strip and rebuild it anyway. just got to figure out which parts to get now.
