The other day I was tidying out some old boxes in the loft from under eaves & found a pile of a 1980's American magazine.
It's called 'Truckin', and was dedicated to the pick-up/van/custom 4x4's of the time.
There's quite a few nice motors throughout the issues I have, including a couple of superb 1940's Ford F100's converted to 4x4 with a step-side body.
Plus this anomoly, it's a predeccesor of the Audi All-Road, Lexus RX, Volvo, etc.....
It's 1980 AMC Eagle wagon, which was also available as a 2 & 4-door saloon (sorry, sedan)

Aah the original Subaru estate unveiled in the UK in 1978.
It cost £3,990 when new.
A part time 4x4 layout, with an awkward stretch to the selector lever as it angled at the passengers knees.
A ground clearance of 7.9inches, coupled with mud & snow tyres & very little weight gave it good off-road capacity (if it wasn't too steep - or rough)
4wd could engaged at up to 50mph .
The brakes & steering were criticised as lacking in feel.
How do I know this??
As I type I'm looking at another skip item, a copy of 'Motor' dated 3rd June 1978.
The cost?, an exhorbitant 25p!!!!!! (yes, really!)
It also has the Range Rover on the cover in a twin-test with the Cherokee S.
Inside there are the Lada Niva, Daihatsu F20, Unimog (yayy!!!), Stonefield & the Matra-Simca Rancho(who's seen one of those recently??)
By the way; a Range Rover then cost £8,528!!!
As a comparison, the dearest Ford was a Granada 2.8i Ghia and that cost £7,315!!
