Hi,

I hope someone out there can help me?
I have had a problem with transmission vibration on my 200Tdi.
I initially thought it was propshaft uj's and set to replacing one propshaft and reconditioning the other. I then turned my attention to wheel bearings and replaced then all in the end. I've tried changing tyres but still no use and eventually I changed the transfer box and clutch (with advice from a Land Rover mechanic) but i still have the damn problem. The symptoms go like this:
When moving off there is a bit of clutch judder which dissapears when power is increased. As the car accelerates through the gears there are differing degrees of vibration and noise not normally there on a disco. But once in 5th as soon as the car gets to 50-55mph the vibration and noise is at its worst. It is more noticable when the transmission is under strain ie up hill. The noise/ vibration persists until the car reaches approx 60-65 mph and then it becomes significantly quieter at 70mph it is reasonably quiet. Sometimes it gets so loud it drowns out the stereo.
I have run the gearbox up through the gears with transfer box in neutral and it is particularly quiet.
I have had this problem for the past 25,000 miles and it has gradually become worse, increasingly so since the new transfer box last week.
I initially thought it was a speed related thing but now i'm not so sure. Has anyone else experienced this? if so what was it and put me out of my misery!
PLEEEEZE!

Have you examined all the gearbox mounts & engine mounts for split rubbers?

Had two new propshafts fitted and they've both been on and off more times than a tarts undies and in different positions too. noise the same every time.
All engine and gearbox mounts have been replaced (gearbox mount was replaced in November).
Took it to Town and County (Aberdeen dealership) yesterday and the mechanic got out scratching his head and went to call his mate and they both went for a joy ride in the Disco...after about half an hour they both came back scratching their heads and muttering something about not hearing that noise on a Landy of any sort before...think my baby is gonna be one of those that only I could love and put up with!!!

Well after months of noise and lots of careful listening and plenty of asprin Ive decided enough is enough and a new gearbox will be purchased...anyone got a good LT77s kicking around that they dont need?
